I hate the term politically correct. The term gives the impression that it’s OK to think like a bigot, racist, homophobe or any other litany of noninclusive ways of thinking as long as I don’t voice those opinions. I relize I am a bit idealistic but why does someone look at another person and determine their worth by the color of their skin? Why is it because they are different they are bad or unworthy? This is the change that we as a society, actually as a species that needs to take place. Hopefully this is the evolutionary step that we will take next.

… Shame on you. Fool me twice, well shame on me because I was fooled.
I came to hockey late. Ever since someone, I can’t even remember who, couldn’t go to a game and gave me a ticket to see the Hershey Bears play. I was 18 and didn’t know any better and I fell in love with the game and the team. It was OK to fall in love with the game but I should have waited and learned more about the teams before picking one to be a fan of. Maybe Boston. I always thought they had cool colors and uniforms. Maybe Pittsburgh which is close to where I grew up and the home of my beloved Pirates. But alas, no. I picked the team that the Hershey Bears were the farm team of. The Washington Capitals. Little did I know that they would be the cause of so much frustration and heart break over the years.

The Caps have lost play off series in just about every way possible. They have been up big and collapsed. They have looked abysmal and just rolled over and they have just plain gotten beat on occasion. Never though have they stepped up in the big spot and produced. This year was no exception. President trophy winner … didn’t matter. Home ice advantage … didn’t matter. Game winning goal on your stick with the whole net to shoot at (twice) … typical Caps, didn’t matter. Yes, the Pens were a very good team but so were the Caps. They had the horses to win that series and the way it played out they would have had a very good shot to hoist the cup. They just can’t do it … ever.

It’s frustrating and heart breaking and I wish I could just not care … but I can’t. Shame on me.

EDIT: Updated for 2023. Cleveland winning a championship got me to thinking about my teams that I follow and how long it’s been. Sometimes being a completely loyal supporter sucks.

Dolphins – 1973 – 49 Years
Capitals – 2018 – 4 Years (I cried, damn it felt good)
Wizards – 1978 – 44 Years
Pirates – 1979 – 43 Years
Penn State Football – 1986 – 36 Years
Red Devils – 2014 – 8 years (Long time for them)

Where do we go to find out the truth about … well anything really?

I was searching for something on the internet the other day and it occurred to me as I was scrolling through the search results, how do I know if these are correct? It doesn’t really matter what you are looking for, the results you get are both sides of the argument. If it’s a product or service there are both 5 star and 0 star reviews for the exact same thing. Wow this is the greatest thing ever right next to the review that says this is a piece of crap. Unless of course you are searching for reviews about the 3 moon wolf shirt because that is always epic and has great reviews.

Here’s a perfect example. I try to be gluten free as much as possible. I do this because I read several articles and a book explaining how this is bad for you and what it does to your system. Well guess what, I can find just as many articles and books stating, with solid scientific arguments, that gluten has no adverse effect on your body. Who’s right? Where does the truth lie? Probably somewhere in the middle but why is it so hard to find that information now a days? Since when did the world and our opinions have to be so black and white and polarizing?

Well I’m off to try to read between the lines about GMO wheat. Wish me luck.

Yep, not surprised at all. So many times this team has let the fans down and last night was no exception. Just too many stupid, asinine mistakes but again why should any Dolphins fan be surprised. We’re not. We’re used to it and frankly a little numb to it. Well on to hockey season
How about them Caps … Oh wait, they stunk it up the other night against their bitter rival. Yea, not so great a week.

OK fine, I’m sucked back in by your new attitude and the last two games. Shame on you for not playing like this before but I get it when your work environment sucks and you have no faith in the people running the ship.
This is a huge game, on national TV, against a divisional opponent. DON’T LAY ANOTHER FUCKING EGG … AGAIN!!!!! You don’t have to win. I don’t know if this team is there yet but you must compete. Don’t embarrass us fans again. If you do, I’m done until you make the play offs. Even if that is 10 years from now.

OK, this time I’m really going to do this. I have all these thoughts and opinions and I never get them out there. Well here it goes. I’m really, really going to start writing on here again and making an effort to promote it. I also want to broaden the scope of what I pontificate about. (Yea that was a big word, WHEW!) I’m still going to complain about Man United, the Capitals, Pirates, Wizards and most of all the Dolphins, yea I know, they’re easy prey, but I’m also going to give my opinions on current topics. Not just the easy ones either. Race, Feminism and why are people so stupid when they get behind the wheel of a car are all on my agenda. So sit back, enjoy and watch the fireworks … hopefully.

I am going to do this, I really am.

There is a lot of talk lately about whether Ryan Tannehill is the Dolphins answer at quarterback. My take is that I just don’t know. He shows flashes of brilliance but when he does have opportunities He sometimes has a tendency to miss open guys. He did again this week and that is not a good thing to have happen, especially when they are far and few between. I guess that is the real issue. Brady can miss a wide open guy, which he does occasionally, and it is OK because on the next play there is somebody else wide open. Not in Miami. There is not enough talent around the QB to really evaluate him. No, I’m not saying Tannehill is as good as Brady. We don’t know that yet. But he might be. Hard to tell at this point. I see a team that other teams now have on tape and know how to play and there is not enough talent to overcome the game planning. That falls squarely in the GM’s lap. He better have one hell of an off season.

I have heard several times in the past few days that the best way to get into writing is to write. Just do it. So here it goes … again. I am going to try and start doing this on a more regular basis just to write. Even if no one is listening.
